R & P

[This comment, written on a Conference evaluation form seems an important statement that we think deserves a wider circulation.]

As a separatist, I groaned (and a few other things) when I heard that Romanovsky and Phillips were included in the Oven concert. Needless to say, I went rather reluctantly:

Well, what can I say? Imagine my surprise!!! My reputation is probably ruined (or at least suspect), as I found myself on my feet wanting them to sing more and more and more.

What a delight! They have talent, a great sense of (clever humor), and a

de sensitivity.

I trust (hope) that the gay men in the audience_were as inspired by them as I was inspired by hearing Holly Near for the first time.

It's such a welcome change to see that at least two gay male performers can entertain as gay males rather than as gay boys dressing up (in their sexist interpretation) as women, acting slutty and embracing sexist, hetero stereotypes.

I hope some gay group or organization will bring "R&P" back to the burg-again and again and again. And I hope that soon there will be as many gay male performers voicing the gay male experience as there are lesbian performers speaking to lesbian lives.

Buck's Language

To Buck Harris:

After reading the letter of Jeffrey Fox and your reply in the April GPC, I decided to dash off a lines to you.

DOD-

I am virtually a drinker. I've had wine twice so far in 1986 during a special Easter dinner. I think that too often we who are family members of recovering alcoholics are "too sensitive" to the possible negative effects that any mention of alcohol use might have.

I think that if you were talking or writing for nuns or the medical community, then you would use "less basic" and more scientific words concerning SAFE SEX, etc. I admire your ability to communicate in writing and speech with predominantly gay men's groups. We ceṛtáinly understand most, if not all, of the four letter words. You do get your message across effectively. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Stan Willard University Heights
